一本道Expectations
A contractor must take reasonable care for their own health and safety and take reasonable care that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others. Specifically, a contractor must:
- Comply with WHS related legislation and the 一本道contract specific WHS requirements;
- Demonstrate that they have an effective WHS management system;
- Provide information to 一本道on how health and safety risks have been eliminated or minimised so far as is reasonably practicable prior to work commencing;
- Consult, cooperate and coordinate with 一本道and any other PCBUs with whom it shares duties;
- Provide such information, instruction, training and supervision to its Workers (including subcontractors) as necessary to ensure that the services are provided in a manner that is safe and without risks to health;
- Ensure the provision and maintenance of safe systems of work, safe plant and the health and safety of workers and others at any workplace under the contractor’s management or control;
- Take all reasonable steps to ensure that all employees, subcontractors and employees of subcontractors comply with all:
- legislation relating to the contracted work; and
- work health and safety requirements that have been agreed to with 一本道for the contracted work;
- Notify the 一本道Representative of any incident or injury which occurs during or associated with the provision of the contracted work;
- Notify the 一本道Representative when a change of scope occurs in particular if new hazards are identified during works; and
- If undertaking construction work, keep their general construction induction training card available for inspection or if awaiting a decision on their application for a general construction induction training card, keep their general induction training certification available for inspection;
- Safety design workshop and report when required.
If supplying goods:
- Supply products that are designed and manufactured to eliminate or minimise risk so far as is reasonably practicable;
- Ensure safe installation / construction of plant or structures; and
- Provide information on the safe operation, handling, storage, maintenance and disposal of the product.
Subcontractor
Subcontractors must comply with both the duties of a worker and of a contractor.
Whilst you are on site or undertaking work for the university, 一本道will not tolerate the following:
- Consumption of, or being under the influence of, alcohol or drugs
- Bullying, harassing, aggressive, discriminating, intimidating, violent or abusive behaviour towards any 一本道representative, safety advisor, student, member of the public or University community
- Profane, sexist, racist or otherwise offensive language
- The use of radios, stereos or audio equipment
- The presence of animals, including pet dogs
Any unprofessional behaviour could result in being escorted off the premises immediately and will place any future work with the 一本道in jeopardy.

All work health and safety incidents must be managed in accordance with WHS PRO 005 WHS Incident and Hazard Management Procedure.
Identification of hazards and implementing controls is required throughout works. Consultation with the 一本道Representative may be required to fix identified hazards on 一本道sites.
一本道requires reporting of incidents (near misses and injury/illness):
- within 24 hours of the incident occurring; or
- immediately of any incident which involves a 一本道worker or a member of the public or existing 一本道 infrastructure.
All incidents and near misses must notify the 一本道Representative.
Campus Speed Limits
- Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus speed limit is 50km
- Cairns, Nguma-bada campus speed limit is 20km
- QLD Traffic Regulations apply, speed limits are enforced by Queensland Police
Contractors must maintain a high standard of housekeeping while at the University. It is the responsibility of the Contractor to maintain their materials, tools and other equipment in an orderly manner on-site to reduce risks and to ensure these are secure and tidy prior to leaving each day. Working areas, stairways, passages and safety exits must be kept clear of obstructions at all times. Just exist replace this with the sentence at the top.
Equipment and plant that is not in use must be left in a state that does not create a risk to the health or safety of any person. All debris and waste resulting from contractor activity is to be removed by the contractor in a timely manner.
If required, working areas must be barricaded off and appropriate warning notices erected.
University emergency procedures are displayed in all buildings describing the alarms, emergency exits, firefighting equipment, assembly areas and so on. Contractors must make themselves familiar with the local emergency procedures before starting works.
